WHEN IS A PAINTING FINISHED?

Sometimes we artists become so involved with the subject that inspires us. We have difficulty deciding when it is complete.

We also enjoy experimenting with different techniques and mediums that express the subject in a more interesting way. 

Watercolor and Gouache

I am exploring a few approaches that simplify and abstract the subject allowing the viewer to be more involved in interpreting the work.

Acrylic

I may still have a few more versions to try.











Using torn pieces of old or unsuccessful watercolor paintings, (yes that does happen!) I collaged or glued them onto a rigid board.

Then I added more Acrylic paint to develop more variation in color and value.
More color and glue.

Then more texture was added to the waterfall with an acrylic modeling medium.

Finished!
